Ladies of the Cape Quarter

Enjoy the delightful exhibition in praise of women, showing them in all their glory. From the shopper to the musician, the avid exerciser to the languid sunbather these bronzes are positioned in surprising places around the quarter. Wander the aisles and you'll come upon a series of serious cyclists or circus performers; relax under the tree on The Piazza and you'll be joining a bonze sunbather; stop by the fountain on The Square and enjoy the sight of an avid shopper and graceful sun worshipper!

Impasto - Art, Décor & Design is situated on the first level of The Square at Cape Quarter. Taking the name from the dictionary entry: n pl. im·pas·tos - The application of thick layers of pigment to a canvas or other surface in painting - here you will find trend setting innovative local artists showcased in a spacious and light filled environment. Setting trends and not following them is the philosophy of the owner of the gallery, Brad Egglestone, and the artworks that are displayed provide decorative enrichment to both designer homes and corporate environments. Enjoy the bold blending and contrasting of colour and texture that creates these highly decorative pieces.

The Jean Doyle exhibition personifies the strong and unusual pieces that you can find in the gallery. Catch the “Spirit of Woman” and the veneration of the female figure by this distinguished South African sculptor and enjoy the witty combinations that benchmark her sculptures. Her creations embody the voluptuous 18th Century nudes whilst adding the supremely modern accessories of cell-phones, shopping bags and bikinis! This selection comes from the “Concerto Grosso” and “Circus Ladies” collections and includes life size bronzes making a stroll around this lifestyle destination even more alluring!

Jean Doyle is an internationally-recognised South African sculptor whose trademark of the fuller female-figure offers interesting social critiques. Apart from her winsome female figures she is well known for her international commissions which include the famous Just Nuisance in Simons Town, two diamond miners for Diamonds South Africa (Pty) Ltd; and Kifangondo, Angola's National Monument which depicts National Freedom.
