JIMF celebrates Mozart's birthday with music and dance
The theme for the 2013 Johannesburg International Mozart Festival (JIMF) is 'Se vuol ballare' - If you would dance. The 5th JIMF opens on Sunday, 27 January 2013, the commemoration of the birth date of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The 2013 JIMF will run for two weeks at various venues across Johannesburg. There will also be a pre-festival concert on 19 January, which takes the form of a Viennese New Year's Concert, with music and dance. The opening concert for the JIMF on 27 January 2013 will feature the Zurich Chamber Orchestra with the South African National Youth Orchestra, conducted by the renowned Sir Roger Norrington.
The JIMF programme will include various symphony concerts, recitals and workshops, as well as the popular Orchestra from Scratch, an initiative introduced to the JIMF in 2012. For this event, people are not only participating as listeners, but they are actually performing themselves, therefore supporting the JIMF's commitment to bringing classical music to as wide an audience as possible. There will also be concerts by Buskaid, the Chanticleer Singers, as well as children's concerts. The final programme will be available on www.join-mozart-festival.org.
The programme for the JIMF will be released in early December. For more information, go to www.join-mozart-festival.org.
