The SABC is the overarching sponsor of the South African pavilion, which will house South African broadcasters and production companies. "The show offers the organisation an opportunity to increase its visibility and reputation amongst first class African broadcasters and to position its brand alongside international and African broadcasters and networks," says SABC spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago.
The corporation's international sales division will exhibit its 2013 catalogue, with new products, including additional HD content. "It annually assesses its presence at DISCOP Africa, based on business results that are related to market trends in Africa, the demand for African content and ultimately the client base who will be attending the market. It will be releasing new HD titles, such as Shoreline, A Country Imagined, The Lab Season 3 and The Mating Game.
In addition, we are excited to launch our two African formats: The Start Up and Big Up," says Verona Duwarkah: SABC group executive: Television. In addition to showcasing content, it will also be looking to acquire documentaries and other entertainment genres for the SABC's television network.
As part of the show's co-production forum and training programme, a number of sessions on topical issues, helmed by local and international experts, will be presented during the event. ABC Education will lead one of the sessions, TV with a Purpose, which will focus on how broadcast content can be both highly entertaining and educationally sound, yielding research results that illustrate behavioural changes in viewers and communities alike. Examples to be discussed will be children's content, dramas, formal education content, etc. This session promises to be exciting, given the shared health and educational needs of the continent.
SABC Channel Africa will have an outside broadcast from the show and SABC Education will broadcast a number of its programmes from this television market.
