Mzansi Productions to perform in Cape Town for the first time with it's Mixit season
Mixit features a diverse programme of classical and contemporary works such as pas de deux from Le Corsaire and Don Quixote as well as the new works that were performed during the acclaimed inaugural season of Mzansi Productions at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre last year. Other works presented will be Esther Nasser's Angel on my Shoulder, Timothy Le Roux's Angst, Kismet by Yarisha Singh and Casey Swales and Belinda Nusser's new work, phase 5 confronted . The company dancers are Reika Sato, Yarisha Singh, Tanya Futter,Mari-Louise Basson, Nicole McCreedy, Kitty Phetla, Carmen Harris, Craig Arnolds, Marc Goldberg, Casey Swales, the internationally acclaimed dancer Michael Revie and a guest artist from Ballet San Jose in the USA, Peter Brandenhoff.
The performances will coincide with workshops that will be held for local ballet and dance students from 13 to 15 March at the UCT School of Dance. Classes are aimed at junior dancers from age 10 - 14 years and senior dancers of 15 and older. The workshops will be facilitated by Mzanzi company members Yarisha Singh, (a finalist in Dans Dans Dans Competition and accomplished choreographer) for contemporary dance, and Michael Revie (an international principal dancer) for ballet. In addition to the technical work, a choreographic workshop will be included in the programme with the aim of creating a short work that will be performed by selected workshop participants as a curtain raiser to the Mixit performances.
