Listening to SA Campaign launched

The Press Freedom Commission (PFC), which has received over 190 written submissions from political parties, trade unions, academics, civil society, individual members of South African society, religious organisations, media houses and Chapter 9 institutions, has embarked on its 'Listening to SA Campaign'.
Listening to SA Campaign launched

The campaign, which consists of public hearings in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg, is an opportunity for the public to assist in shaping the print regulatory system in South Africa.

Oral presentations will be made at the respective public hearings. The PFC Commissioners, chaired by judge Pius Langa, will conduct the public hearings from 10am to 5pm.

Dates

  • Cape Town - Thursday 19 January 2012 at the Salt River Community House, 41 Salt River Road, Salt River
  • Durban - Monday 23 January 2012 at the Durban Pavilion Hotel, 15 K E Masinga Road, Durban
  • Johannesburg - from Monday 30 January 2012 to Wednesday 1 February at the Braamfontein Recreation Centre, Corner Harrison & Juta Streets, Braamfontein.

The commission wishes to emphasise that it is an independent body of nine commissioners, from different sectors of society, formed to investigate the best possible regulatory system for the South African print media. The PFC is scheduled to complete its final report in March 2012.

The presentation schedule is available on the website www.pressfreedomcomm.org.
