Gothic-style, turreted church building under the hammer in Cape Town
In the past 50 years, Cape Town has seen a large number of churches, synagogues and other places of worship sold and put to use in novel ways - and it is interesting to speculate on the future of the latest such building to come up for sale.

On 23 July, Rawson Auctions Western Cape will auction a 500m² church building in Lower Main Road, Observatory. It was previously rented by the Pentecostal Mission Church.
The building, which is designed in a mock Gothic style, has turrets and castellated street-facing profiles, and can seat 150 to 200 people. It has a stage, a vestry, a lobby, an auditorium, a child minding room, a kitchen, toilets and a veranda.
The auction will take place at 222 Main Road, Rondebosch, the Rawson Property Group's head office, at noon.
Tanya Jovanovski of Rawson Auctions said the building was unlikely to be worth less than R3.5m and could fetch double.
"It has been recognised that these early and mid-20th century Cape buildings were erected in the days when artisans did long, thorough apprenticeships and produced quality work," she said. "This will become very evident to anyone inspecting this building."
