Jake White's innovations put SA rugby in par with AUS, NZ

The Citizen's Sean van Staden writes in his latest column that he returned from the fifth Annual Innovation Summit, where he sought fresh ideas on ways in which SA sport could innovate in both the game and the business of sport.

A decade ago, he says, we battled to beat the Australians and the mighty All Blacks in rugby - unsuccessfully. South African rugby and moral were at an all-time low.

What did these countries have that we didn't have, he says, was the latest technology and unique drills, innovative coaches - and a unique winning system that was moulded over time. "South Africa became complacent in their approach and thinking, compared to other nations and this was our downfall at the time, it bred mediocrity!" The Australians and All Blacks were ahead of their game and quite frankly world-class innovators from the junior ranks to their national squad.

Finally, van Staden's column in The Citizen says, SARU "took the bull by the horns and employed one of South Africa's great sporting innovators, Jake White."
