Treu a happier man after improved Bok Sevens training session

South African Sevens coach was a happier man today after his team delivered a much improved performance in their warm-up match against Uruguay at the Arabian Ranches in Dubai.

Yesterday the Springbok Sevens played against the USA and Treu was far from pleased with his team's performance.

Today, like yesterday against the United States, the Bok Sevens again played three halves of seven minutes.

“I felt we were more focused and the intensity was definitely better. The team spoke honestly about their focus and state of preparedness and it was good that they shifted into a higher gear, mentally. I have always said the difference between the top five or six teams is narrowing all the time and that there is no such thing as an easy game.

“Our preparation is on course and we now only have the captain's run tomorrow before Thursday, but we are all looking forward to be part of the World Cup,” said Treu.

The South African coach and captain attended the official opening function tonight at the plush Dubai harbour side, along with representatives from the rest of men's and women's teams.

South Africa will on Thursday evening get their World Cup challenge underway when they play Japan in the last match of the day at the newly built “The Sevens” Stadium.

Springbok coach Peter de Villiers will perform the jersey-handover to the Springbok Sevens team and he will also visit the SA Women's team while in Dubai.

Meanwhile, the SA Women's team has also started their final RWC preparation in Dubai. The team, coached by Denver Wannies, played a warm-up match earlier today against Russia on one of the outside fields of impressive The Sevens stadium complex.

Wannies said although it was good to get their final preparations underway, there was still considerable room for improvement.

“We have set a high standard for ourselves and we did not quite match that today against a big and strong Russian team.

“We did progressively better, but I want us to be much more consistent tomorrow against Spain,” explained the SA Women's coach.

The SA Women's team will play from Friday against Italy, Uganda and New Zealand in their pool.
