Warming up winter with the CPO

Cape Town residents in the mood for some great music this winter need look no further than the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and its line-up of great symphony concerts in the latest season.

Thursday, 9 August (City Hall)

Conducted by Arjan Tien and featuring clarinettist Maria du Toit as soloist, this performance will include:

  • La Valse, Poème Choréographique by Ravel
  • Rhapsody For Clarinet And Orchestra by Debussy
  • Concert Solo For Clarinet by Messager
  • Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz

Thursday, 16 August (City Hall)

Conducted by Arjan Tien and featuring pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi as soloist, this performance will include:

  • Der Freischutz Overture by Weber
  • Piano Concerto No. 3 In D Minor by Rachmaninov (my all-time favourite)
  • Symphony No. 5 In D Major by Vaughan Williams

Thursday, 23 August (City Hall)

Conducted by Theodore Kuchar and featuring pianist Charl du Plessis as soloist, this performance will include:

  • Appalchian Spring Suite by Copland
  • Re-invention Suite No. 1 by Charl du Plessis
  • Rhapsody In Blue by Gershwin
  • My Homeland, From Bohemia's Meadows And Forests, The Moldau, and Sárka by Smetana

Sunday, 2 September (Artscape Theatre)

Conducted by Theodore Kuchar and featuring world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell as soloist, this performance will include:

  • La Gazza Ladra by Rossini
  • Violin Concerto In D Major by Brahms
  • Symphony No. 3 (Eroica) In E flat Major by Beethoven
