The ministry's chief director, Benny Palime said, “The ministry will continue to support Doug in all his future initiatives, as Radio 2000 ensures that people living with disabilities have a platform to discuss their issues and drive awareness campaigns. The ministry will ensure that this show remains on Radio 2000 as it is a true asset to the department.”
  • On 3 December 2009, the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, Anderson was awarded the Inseta National Disability Award in the category Disability Champion.

Fighting this good cause has been innate for Doug, as he was born with a spinal defect resulting in partial paraplegia. He was given a 2% chance of survival at birth, with doctors advising that he would have no quality of life and that the future looked bleak. Thirty-four years later, this ambitious individual is regarded as a role model to able and physically challenged people.

“I would like to thank Radio 2000 and the SABC for believing in and giving me the platform through which to make a difference to disability in South Africa. It is indeed an honour and a privilege to be a voice for people living with disabilities. Winning these awards bears testament to the fact that the show is indeed making a difference,” said Anderson.
