Entries for Profile Awards open
The 2013 Profile Awards, which reward excellence in science and technology journalism, are open for entries in five categories, offering a prize of R10,000 in each category.
The competition, sponsored by Siemens and supported by the South African Department of Science and Technology, closes for entries on 31 July 2013.
Entries, which will be accepted in English, Arabic, French and Portuguese must have been published or broadcast between the 1 August 2012 and 31 July 2013. The competition will be administered in English.
Award categories
1. energy efficiency
2. sustainable cities
3. industrial productivity
4. healthcare
5. science and technology photojournalism
Out of the five winners, there will be an overall winner who will receive an additional R10 000 and an international visit to relevant world-class technology centres in Germany.
"Journalists play an important role in communicating science, technology and innovation in ways that ordinary South Africans can understand. They help to share our national science and technology knowledge and build understanding in government, business and among the public," says Science and Technology Minister, Derek Hanekom.
