Government rings in Women's Day with awards
Event organiser and publisher of Top Women, Karla Fletcher says the strong commitment from government really reflects why South Africa is leading the way in gender empowerment. "According to the Wits Business School Journal, around 38% of all established businesses in South Africa are owned by women; more than 25% of those businesses make in excess of R750,000 a year; and 50% employ more than two people."
"The role of the Top Women Awards is to recognise those leaders in business and government for the work they've done and the changes they have made. Over the last 10 years, women have made significant advancements in not only the public sector in terms of policy and legislation; but also in business by increasing the women at board level quota."
The glamorous annual event is always a highlight on the business calendar and this year the guest list includes Home Affairs Minister and the new chairperson of the African Union, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma; the Ministers of DIRCO and the Department of Energy; Deputy Ministers from Economic Development and Women, Children and People with Disabilities, MECs from various portfolios including Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the North West.
All eyes will be on the finalists to see who scoops these prestigious awards on the night. For a full list of finalists, follow this link.
