Change pays dividends at Brooke Pattrick

Key industries such as mining, energy and construction play an increasingly important role in the development of Africa, and the actors require credible information for making business decisions. With this in mind, Brooke Pattrick Publications has been repositioning itself as a provider of information rather than being a traditional trade publishing house.

The relatively new editorial team, which is still expanding, has proven its worth. Brooke Pattrick took three Picas and two commendations - more than any South African b2b publisher - for the fifth consecutive year.

"We are delighted with the recognition of the Pica judges and humbled by our success in the mining field - having been voted the publisher of the first, second and third best mining magazines in South Africa! However, it is the response from readers to the many improvements that we have been implementing in our magazines that keep us motivated," said publisher Gerald Garner.

The publisher has significantly increased investment in its editorial department by appointing specialist editors, many of whom are professionally qualified and registered, and have worked in the fields they cover. They undertake extensive research in Africa to ensure that they write with insight and form credible opinions.

Readers seem to be voting with their cheque books, with the stable attracting rising advertising spend, and paid-subscription circulation on all titles increasing, according to ABC figures. Fortnightly e-mail bulletins and a searchable website with data on all mines in Africa have been added to the product list.
