Best Life media partnership set to blow readers away
Best Life magazine has partnered with the Oxbow Big Bay Classic to bring you the most outstanding windsurfing event in Africa, attracting top riders from around the world to compete in two windsurfing disciplines, namely the Slalom World Championships and the SA Open Wave Championships being held at Big Bay from 5 to 10 January 2009.
Best Life launched into the men's lifestyle magazine market in 2007 as part of the Men's Health stable at Touchline, targeting accomplished men over 35 with an LSM of 9-10. The magazine speaks to those men who seek to prioritise their life according to the things that matter most to them: health, family and fatherhood, relationships, career and the pursuit of the good life, thus making the Oxbow Big Bay Classic a fitting partnership.
Says the magazine's editor, Jason Brown, “The guys you see with windsurfers and longboards on the roof of their cars are the ideal Best Life readers - they're successful men who enjoy active lifestyle sports that keep them fit and offer real relaxation. Windsurfing is a natural fit for us and we're thrilled to be getting involved in such a high-calibre event that'll showcase the world's best in arguably the most beautiful location in the world.”
The Slalom World Championships will have riders competing on a course that starts and ends through traditional start and finish lines, following a high-speed course marked out by floating buoys. Slalom racing highlights the competitive nature in every rider. A maximum of 80 international competitors (64 men and 16 women) may register.
The SA Open Wave Championships is the traditional discipline of the Big Bay Classic. Much like surfing, riders are free to express and demonstrate their skills at wave riding and jumping. The conditions are perfect for this at Big Bay and are what make it famous throughout the world as an excellent training ground in summer. Online entries have already closed, but final registration will take place at the Big Bay Lifesaving Club on Monday, 5 January 2009 from 10h00. The Big Bay Lifesaving Club is providing the use of their building and facilities for the weeklong event and the beach and surrounding area provide sufficient space for spectators.
Events to look forward to are:
Slalom racing and wave competition from Tuesday, 6 January to Saturday, 10 January 2009 from 12h00 until 17h00 and free stand-up paddleboard lessons, which will be given to the public from Wednesday, 7 January to Saturday, 10 January 2009 between 10h00 and 12h00.
Don't miss Jason going head-to-head with Ivan van Vuuren, four-time winner of the GTI Wave International, a prestigious windsurfing event held at Big Bay during the ‘80s, as well as SA Longboarding Champion, Matthew Moir, in a stand-up paddleboard fun race taking place on 7 January 2009 at Big Bay between 10am and 12h00.
