Home-based care NGO sues clothing manufacturer

According to Allafrica.com, the South African Christian Leadership Assembly Health Project (SACLA), an NGO which provides home-based care to chronically ill patients in Khayelitsha, Philippi and Nyanga, is taking legal action against clothing manufacturer for the non-delivery of R25 000 worth of warm winter jackets the SACLA ordered for volunteers.

Over a year ago the SACLA ordered 240 winter jackets from Tee Shirt Den in Salt River for their home-based care volunteers. The initial payment of R25 137 was done in June last year, but SACLA hasn't received the winter jackets despite "countless follow ups". SACLA General Manager Thoko Mtulu said her organisation was therefore instituting legal action through the Magistrate's Court.

She said the volunteers had now worked through two harsh winters without proper jackets despite the manufacturer having being paid. The volunteers "go door-to-door providing treatment to patients who can't go to the hospital," said Mtulu. Owner of Tee Shirt Den factory shop, Firhaad Hendricks, told Allafrica.com that the company had manufactured the jackets ordered but SACLA refused to accept them, saying the design was not what they had requested.
