The series of 35 original works has been produced in acrylic paints and pigment inks on canvas and paper. The artist has captured the highlights in Pelé's life and career, while Pelé has added his interpretation of the events and their significance, in his own hand and style, revealing thoughts and emotions that bring cherished personal memories of his career to life.
The 'Art of Pelé' will be reproduced in a limited edition of signed prints and offered for sale in South Africa during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, before the exhibition moves to Brazil and other world centres.
The exhibition was opened by Pelé on Thursday 10 June 2010 at Artnet Gallery, Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. The public is welcome to view the exhibition at the Artnet Gallery from 11 June. Some of the Pelé originals will be auctioned off at Melrose Arch on 24 June.
