Chicken art for the soul

Four Nando's restaurants, Adderley Street, Woodstock, Tokai and Camps Bay, are showcasing inspiring original collections of art to actively support local artists.

Adderley Street, which has recently been revamped with a contemporary new look, features the work of Henk Serfontein. This artist's abstract work focuses on the process of layering and is themed around the transient nature of memory. His work is intended to reflect the energy and vibrancy of city life evidenced daily on Adderley Street.

Woodstock houses the work of Wonder Martinus, whose acrylic on canvas work portrays “living space.” The work featured displays his favourite buildings and scenes in the area and each work features another of his personal passions - the protea.

In Tokai, Alfred Budaza is the local artist selected to exhibit his work, which centres on an exploration of emotions and feelings expressed through colour in abstract.

Camps Bay restaurant has embraced the work of those whose preferred medium lies beyond canvas. Neliswa Skiti is one of the gifted artists responsible for creating the sensational beadwork “paintings” that are all designs of different places or objects relevant to the community and South African culture.

Partnership with Art Collaborative

The company's restaurant artworks initiative was established in partnership with Jeanetta Blignaut's COEO Art Collaborative, which partners with companies to develop meaningful art programmes to communicate company culture and vision. The programme provides emerging artists, many from disadvantaged communities, with the opportunity to reach a wider audience and to generate much needed regular income.

Guy Le Ray-Cook, GM Nando's Western Cape, commented, “Artwork for the collections is sourced all over South Africa and the company takes particular interest in working with young emerging artists. We also exhibit some of the work at our offices and restaurants abroad. This programme allows us to meaningfully demonstrate our support and commitment to the communities in which we operate and to our talented local artists.”
