Vital Foundation's Mandela Day initiative

After the initial launch of the Vital Foundation in August 2013, it has been able to raise R3.2m to fight abuse against women and children.
The totally unacceptable abuse of women and children in SA is a national - and international - disgrace.
The totally unacceptable abuse of women and children in SA is a national - and international - disgrace.

On Mandela Day 2014, it plans to rally communities to get involved in a more intimate manner, by providing the opportunity to meet with organisations fighting abuse on a daily basis.

The time where sitting back and hoping for change has long past, South Africans are called to join in and protect the women and children of this country. The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) has released statistics that indicate that an intimate partner kills one woman every eight hours and one in three children is abused in South Africa, these are just some of the horrific statistics released by.

The foundation will make use of its website, social media platforms, and the SABC3's breakfast show Expresso to highlight other organisations where volunteers can participate. It will focus on four organisations:
• Cape Town: Nazareth House
• Johannesburg: Joburg Child Welfare
• Pietermaritzburg: YouthKZN
• Port Elizabeth: SOS Children's Village

The Foundation is funded from the proceeds of the 'R1 makes a difference' campaign, where Vital Health Foods has pledged to donate R1 from the sale of every Vital supplement. All the funds collected from the supplement sales will help build a wall of protection against woman and child abuse by funding organisations that offer services and support to survivors.

Volunteers can enter their details onto the website, www.vitalfoundation.co.za and they will then be placed at an organisation that is in their area.
