D&AD Yellow Pencil for TBWA's Tsotsi

LONDON: TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris was awarded a Yellow Pencil at the prestigious D&AD awards last night, Thursday 24 May 2007, in London for its Tsotsi Safact Anti-Piracy campaign. “This is great for South Africa,” says Damon Stapleton, executive creative director for TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris in London this morning. “It shows that South Africa is producing great work and being rewarded on an international scale and standard.”

“This is the second time ever that Hunts has won this award; the last time was in 1996,” continued Stapleton. “The great thing about being recognised for this campaign specifically is that it is a South African idea; it is born of South Africa, an idea that won on a global scale is endemic to SA. Winning this shows that SA has the ability and creativity, and is producing work of such a high standard that it is internationally renowned and recognised.

“The fact that Hunts won for this is representative of Hunts philosophy, of what it stands for – Hunts is about creativity, and doing something original, and this award proves that SA is as good as any other country,” he concluded

According to TBWA, the campaign become a frequently talked-about topic with the public and there has been a large amount of hype around the creativity of the campaign, which has received numerous awards, including a Young Guns Golden Bullet as well as a Cannes Golden Lion Award.
