Max Definition, Breinstorm and Virgin Money make bank managers a ''hit''

While consumers have been paying exorbitant bank charges and unnecessary card fees for years, and certainly haven’t been earning decent interest on their positive balances to soften the blow, Max Definition, Breinstorm Brand Architects, and their mutual client, Virgin Money, have come up with a way for consumers to “get even”, so to speak, and make some cash while doing it.

“Beat your bank manager cent-less” is Virgin Money’s new online campaign, incorporating the power of banner adverts, viral marketing, an interactive flash game, and good clean fun.

The campaign was designed as an acquisitions tool, driving traffic to Virgin Money’s site and promoting people to apply online for their new credit card. It is also aimed at shedding light on the benefits of owning a Virgin Money Credit Card.

The campaign pokes fun at the ‘small print thinking’ that lurks behind the overly rehearsed, 100-watt smile often seen on faces at traditional banks, and aims to show Virgin Money as being the opposite - an open and transparent bank with nothing to hide and the best deal for credit card holders.

In the online game, the user has a time limit to (literally) beat up a fictional cartoon bank manager, and earn a reward of up to R100, to be credited to the player’s new Virgin Money Credit Card when they sign up and their card is approved.

In keeping with classic cartoon tradition, the styling of the game ensures that the campaign cannot be misconstrued as vindictive in any way, and is meant purely as a fun way for consumers to vent their frustrations on something that they never really had control of in the first place – that is, the fine print that obliged them to pay more than they needed to for financial services.

Please note that no bank managers were harmed in the making of this online campaign.
