Research indicates Power FM is influential media platform
According to an analysis of the agenda setting media (ASM) for the first half of 2013, commissioned by Media Tenor South Africa, the newest commercial talk radio station, Power FM (98.7) is one of the most influential media platforms in business.
These results are based on an analysis of 4340 quotes from 42 opinion-leading media for the first half of 2013. Of the South African media platforms, the station came out as the second most influential media in business after the Mail and Guardian and the only broadcast platform that featured in the top 10. Ranked amongst international players, it was preceded by the Mail & Guardian (4th), Reuters (3rd), Financial Times (2nd) and Bloomberg News (1st).
The survey by Media Tenor SA evaluates which media are most often quoted or cited by other media houses, thus setting the news agenda. The survey was conducted between January and July 2013. Media Tenor SA, senior researcher Stephano Radaelli said, "This is remarkable given that the station only started broadcasting towards the end of June, the latter part of our analysis.
Always improving
Ferdinand Mabalane, station manager, said: "This is a significant feat which bodes well for our station's listeners, advertisers and staff. The impact of the station is further evidenced by the quality of advertisers who are already on board including leading banks, FMCG and telecommunications companies."
He added that the station will continue to cement its leadership positioning by further improving the on-air product, as it strives to be the preferred commercial talk radio station."
On 4 September, it will roll out a new transmitter for the southern parts of Johannesburg to cover areas such as Soweto as part of its overall Gauteng wide licenced area. Media operating group MSG Afrika Media, a subsidiary of MSG Afrika Investment Holdings, owns it.
