Lewis reports revenue growth

Furniture retailer Lewis said on Wednesday, 21 January 2009, that its cumulative revenue growth for the nine months ended 31 December 2008 was 5%.

Revenue for the quarter ended December 2008 also increased by 5%.

"The month of December 2008 reflected an encouraging result with merchandise sales up 5% and revenue up by 7%," added the company.

The overall condition of the debtors' book, as measured by the doubtful debt provision, remained stable, with the doubtful debt provision for the nine month period December 2008 reported at 15.4%.

"This is similar to the level of the doubtful debt provision for the six month period September 2008 (15.5%). The provision as at December 2007 was 14%," said the company.
