New food, product market in Sea Point to trade every day
The Mojo Market, conceived and developed by Graeme Robinson, Tara Lerner and Robbie Lessem, who created and own the Mojo Hotel, which is adjacent to and above the market, will launch in March 2017.
The market promises a globally infused food offering with Asian, American and Mexican stalls in the mix. Traders such as Earth Fire Pizza, The Codfather, Didi’s Burritos and Punjab Express have already signed up for stalls. Cape Point Bakery will be setting up shop and Pulp & Grind will serve fresh health juices. In a first for the Atlantic Seaboard, American ice-cream brand Baskin-Robins will be opening shop at the market too.
The retail offering focuses largely on small, local producers who are creating fresh, contemporary wares from clothing to gifts, jewellery and homeware. Confirmed vendors include Love Africa, Pure Solid 13, Colurbox, Redrum, Mia Melange, Model Citizen, Cowboys and Crooks, Nava Apparel, Sugar Tong Tong, Kate Sparrow and more.
Opening at 8am daily, with retailers and food vendors serving until 10pm, the bars will close at 11pm. A 24-hour coffee shop and food offering will be phased into the offering over time and promises to be a welcome addition for night owls and holidaymakers.
Robinson says, “This market will make it affordable for smaller traders to play their part in the buzzing Sea Point hub. We are looking forward to the energy these dedicated and creative entrepreneurs will bring to the district. All our Mojo businesses celebrate casual lifestyle but we also demand a high standard when it comes to product and service and the Mojo Market will be no different.”
Spanning 1,700sqm on a site that was an OK Bazaars in the 1950s, Indigo Fusion and Jade and Ginja, who also created the marine look of the Mojo Hotel, are designing the Market. The Mojo Market has been inspired by street and city markets across the world.
Lessem adds, “We envisioned a diverse and interesting retail space that will reflect the colourful vibrancy of Sea Point life. We have opened up the ocean views and pulled elements of the surrounding Deco architecture into a bright, open community space.”
Traders positioned close to the street will also face outwards onto the pavement, creating ‘retail theatre’ for passers-by.
