City of Cape Town Donor Directory 2003/4

The Economic Development and Tourism Directorate of the City of Cape Town has announced the launch of its Donor Directory 2003/4, a publication aimed at supporting the fundraising activities of local NGOs and CBOs.

The City of Cape Town receives numerous requests for financial assistance every year. Unfortunately only a small proportion of these can be supported, with the result that many worthwhile projects do not receive funding and therefore cannot be implemented.

In recognition of the important role that non-profit organisations play in our society, 4 000 copies of the Directory will be distributed free of charge to NGOs and CBOs. In addition to a comprehensive list of donor organisations, the directory provides valuable guidelines and sound advice to assist grant seekers in accessing donor funding.

The Directory contains:

  • Donors (corporations, foundations, trusts and government departments) and their contact details, programme areas, funding criteria and exclusions;
  • Useful website addresses and publications geared at assisting fundraisers;
  • Guidelines for fundraisers;
  • Registration procedures (NPO, PBO, Income Tax, Section 21 Company Not for Gain); and a
  • Glossary of funding terminology;

    The Directory will be particularly useful to organisations that have not yet accessed electronic databases and that have little or no fundraising experience, nor the financial resources to acquire this knowledge. It could provide grassroots projects and small NGOs with the necessary information to access funding and to sustain their activities. It is therefore of paramount importance that they are aware of the availability of the Directory.
