BlackRock partners with Moja to form new company

BlackRock Investment Holdings has formed a partnership with Moja Movie Factory, past producers of Etv's local youth soap Backstage, and now has a 50 percent stake in the new venture, BlackRock Movie Factory.

The new South African-based television production company combines the strengths of the award-winning production team of Moja Movie Factory, that for the past two years have brought to South Africa's television screens 'Backstage', with the management expertise, reputation, communication experience and empowerment integrity of the BlackRock brand. BlackRock Movie Factory, with offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town, will specialise in popular entertainment through drama, soaps, sitcoms and actuality programmes.

The full production team of Moja, who have a multiplicity of skills, has been retained.

Stephanie Pickover, the Managing Director of BlackRock Movie Factory, was the producer of Backstage and a former scriptwriter for Egoli and Generations. She is also a former Rapport, Sunday Times and SABC journalist.

Charl Blignault, was with Backstage from day one as a scriptwriter and responsible for all its music development. He is the former arts editor of the Mail and Guardian.

Elsabé Roux was the storyliner and former Generations scriptwriter.

Vincent Nkomo was the music writer for Backstage and Tebogo Matlala did all the PR and Marketing for the show.

These talented individuals, along with a team of five people in their wardrobe, makeup, design and finance team will join Blackrock mid-January 2004.
