Chasing storms on Table Mountain
Action-man Jeremy Goodall is known for his specialty for in-camera improvisation, stunt work and cinematographic know-how - just some of the reasons why Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore appointed him to shoot and direct the latest Sony Ericsson TV commercial, dubbed ‘Lightning’.
The creative concept is based on the launch of a new Sony Ericsson phone, the K800 Cyber-shot. This camera phone combines a performance 3.2 megapixel camera for quality image capture and a 3G mobile handset for fast and easy transfer and sharing of those images. These features are put to the test in the commercial when a storm-chaser attempts to capture a lightening bolt image on his phone.
Shooting the spot on Table Mountain brought out some of Goodall’s heroic shooting style. The location was an unpredictable, protected environment that experienced frequent landslides and subsequently road closures.
Comments Goodall, “Even with these challenges, this location was ideal because of the freedom that the space offered us. Although we were shooting on a protected part of the Peninsula that belongs to the Cape Nature Conservation, we could get some great aerial shots without upsetting the natural environment.”
Suburban’s managing partner and executive producer, Linda Notelovitz Goodall says, ‘This Sony Ericsson phone was just awarded the GSM Association’s Best 3GSM Mobile “Handset 2007. So, Jeremy had the challenge of creating something spectacular that had to live up to the slickness of the phone.”
