Two spicy new reds
Both Simonsig Estate and Clos Malverne have released new red wines that offer interesting tastes for the consumer.
Clos Malverne has joined the coffee culture fashionistas with the debut of its Le Café Pinotage 2010, described as having a rich dark plum hue and seductive java, mocha and chocolate aromas with spicy undertones of cinnamon and roasted coffee beans that linger to a smooth aftertaste. The wine is available from R85.90 per bottle, directly from the cellar or at selected wine outlets.
Simonsig has released its second vintage of The SMV, a blend of Shiraz (59%), Mourvèdre (40%) and Viognier (1%) that made its debut by scooping a Veritas Double Gold medal with the 2008 maiden vintage. The 2009 vintage reveals notes of dark berries, cinnamon spices, aromatic espresso and chocolate slivers supported by mulberry, pepper and dried fynbos aromas. It retails from around R82 per bottle and is available at the cellar or at wine outlets countrywide.
