Meals for moppets
As any parent of a toddler or young child will tell you, the better the meals children eat, the better they develop, the better they do at school and the healthier they are, but ensuring that they get the nutrition they need every day can sometimes be a daunting task.
That's why Woolworths decided to make it much easier for caring parents - they decided to launch their range of ready-to-heat kids' meals in their new, exclusive Eatwell range.
Made with only the freshest home-style ingredients, no hydrogenated fats or oils, preservatives, artificial colours or artificial flavours have been used, and saturated fat levels have been controlled.
The retailer's dietician Mariza van Zyl explains: “We've worked out the ingredients based on the guideline daily amounts for children ages 1-4. As nutritional requirements vary with age, we've developed some meals for ages 1-2 and others for older children aged 3-4 so mothers can choose the meals that are most appropriate.” Apart from the best ingredients, only those cooking methods that best preserve the nutritional content of food - such as steaming, stewing and baking - have been used in their production.
So what's on the menu?
Woolworths Eatwell meals for kids include:
• Crisscross cottage pie, with free range beef and mixed vegetables topped with Nicola potato and sweet potato mash
• Funky fish & chips with crumbed balls of hake and trout and crispy Nicola potato chips
• Cheeky chicken casserole with free range chicken in a butternut and tomato sauce with Basmati rice and sweetcorn
• Crazy creamy chicken with free range chicken and broccoli in a creamy cheese sauce with Basmati rice
• Yummy meatballs and mash - made with free range beef, “hidden vegetables” and a Nicola potato and sweet potato mash
And good news for the not-so-young, there are plans for future additions to the range, including meals for adults and vegetarians.
