The competition, which was run across 13 university campuses, will culminate in a final exhibition to showcase the 132 art pieces submitted and to choose the final winners of Grand-Pa's® 90th Birthday Art Competition.

Five artist stands to win R10 000 cash each at the end of the competition.

The nine entry categories in the competition were Painting (watercolour or oil), Sculpture, Drawing (any medium), Motif (fabric print), Mosaic, Street Art, Collage, Wire Design (and beadwork) and Weaving, Knitting or Crochet.

Heribert Voss, general manager & VP Consumer Healthcare Southern Africa, said he was looking forward to seeing the cream of the art crop represented at the final exhibition that is being held at WITS University's Village Café on 29 August 2007.

“We've been very impressed with the quality of the artwork we have seen so far. Now that all 132 pieces will be showcased at one venue, we will get a good overall sense of how students have interpreted the brief in the various creative mediums. For us, as a long-standing brand, this is very exciting as it encapsulates students' feelings about our product,” he said.

Once the winners have been selected, images of the top 12 artworks will be used as in the 2008 GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Calendar. The artwork will then be put together in a roving gallery that will travel to the 13 campuses that participated in the competition.
