SABC, staff meet over shenanigans
According to a press statement from the SABC yesterday, “The forum gave way to frank and honest discourse, where staff was able to raise their issues whether positive or negative, and engage with management on a level of moving the organisation forward...
“The board acknowledged staff comments and recommendations on issues raised and reiterated that it supports the corporate strategy of ‘Broadcasting for Total Citizen Empowerment'. The board as well as staff recommitted themselves to rebuilding the credibility and reputation of the organisation, and to ensure continuity in the day-to-day running of the SABC, following the past difficult weeks, where the SABC brand has been tarnished,” the SABC said.
Beeld, which attended the meeting, quotes Mampone as saying, “There is no doubt the SABC trademark has incurred terrible damage. People are embarrassed to show their business cards in public. This shows that something is seriously wrong... Change is necessary. We can't afford to be the nation's joke all the time. We'll have to put strategies in place to change our position in the market”.
Meanwhile, Mpofu will appear in the Johannesburg High Court today, reports IOL. The suspended group CEO served legal applications against the SABC on Monday 12 May and has been “tight-lipped” over his legal plans for most of this week.
