2002 Duku Duku Awards nominees announced

Simunye's popular variety programme Selimathunzi has announced the nominees of the 2002 Duku Duku Awards. Now into their fourth season, the Awards will be comprised of 10 categories. An additional two categories have been kept under wraps until the Awards ceremony.

"This year's Awards will continue the now established tradition to honour local South African television talent. The uniqueness and the popularity of these television Awards lies in the fact that the viewers will decide the ultimate winners. The Duku's will be presented in a style and manner that only Selimathunzi can," says SABC1 Commissioning Editor, Sbu Nxumalo.

The Awards nominees were drawn from a short list prepared by newspaper journalists, including the now renowned social page scribes. Viewers will be encouraged to vote for their favourite television personalities via either e-mail or surface mail. Few lucky viewers also stand a chance to win a hospitality package to attend the Awards ceremony.

"The Awards ceremony will be held on December 10. We are keeping the venue and some of our ideas secret for now. I can however assure our loyal fans that they should expect fireworks. I am also confident that the two additional categories kept under wraps for now will also add much needed spice," says Joe Correira, Selimathunzi executive producer.
