New name, same game at Plascon Design Centre

Following the buyout of the Plascon's holding company, Freeworld Coatings, in 2011, by Japanese paint company Kansai Paints, the existing Freeworld Design Centre and Cape Waters building will change its name to Plascon Design Centre from 1 October 2012. The physical rebranding of the building will take place later this year, allowing for a gradual and smooth transition.

The design centre team will be moving offices to the first floor of the Cape Town building, making space for new occupants, Virtual Architects, who will be situated on the ground floor.

The Plascon Design Centre will become a commercial space and an external company will manage events and bookings. The design pods in the gallery-styled exhibition space will become pop-up exhibition spaces in the future, which may be seen in and around the city from shopping malls to other gallery spaces. This is the chance for the Plascon Design Centre to highlight beautiful exhibitions as before, but this time anywhere and at any time, providing greater accessibility to the public.

The team will continue to provide its unique service offering, as South Africa's first trade-orientated coatings design centre and provide decor consultation and 3D rendering service to clients, architects, interior designers and decorators, property developers and owners.

"We are excited by what the future holds," says brand retail manager, Tanya Nicholson. "The changes provide dynamic opportunities from a brand perspective, while still allowing it to continue its work consulting to clients in the commercial and retail industries."
