Favela's hero comes to Design Indaba
Marcelo Rosenbaum is a rare class of designer who wards off autograph mobs in the street of Sao Paulo, Brazil. At the forefront of a new wave of designers concentrating on the optimism and pride of being Brazilian, he has come to embody the aesthetic dreams of the decidedly diverse country.
Rosenbaum hosts a home makeover show that transforms poor families' homes and shares his philosophy and enthusiasm through his popular blog, TV show and radio programmes.
“Brazil is an overflowing source of inspiration. Any minimalism is lost among the miscegenation, the gigantic colour palette, the joy, the sensuality, the richness of artistic expressions. This aesthetic is assimilated by art, by the industry, by consumption, by fashion. There could not be another setting,” enthuses Rosenbaum.
Having established Rosenbaum Design Office in 1992, he plays principal designer to a multidisciplinary team of designers, architects, producers and communication professionals.
He brings a brightly emotional palette to interior design and a social and environmental conscience to architecture and product development at the Design Indaba Conference from 24-26 February 2010 at the CTICC.
