Garth Walker met with a number of council members for an informal workshop and briefing session in which the new name was debated. Repositioning the council, in line with potential future initiatives to create a single design council, whilst also having a simpler and easier to grasp descriptor, were the arguments that held weight. The need for a symbol that could take its place at the table with similar international bodies was also part of the briefing.

The new brand will be presented tonight, Thursday 22 October 2009 at the GIBS forum, where Ravi Naidoo, Gaby de Abreu and Nathan Reddy will be presenting a shortened version of a talk they gave at the Experimenta conference in Lisbon earlier this year.

The council looks forward to a refreshed and more user-friendly website later this year.
