Last call for cd/dvd packaging design competition

Apart from Southern Sun giving away a two-night stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Umhlanga Rocks, including bed, breakfast and a dinner for two, Murrary Campbell, owner of Media Alliance, says, "We are busy negotiating for winners and commendations to have space allocated at The Design Indaba Expo in February next year.

"We know that we will not be able to showcase everybody's work so on top of that we will be developing a dedicated web page on our website to showcase these design's, and will be inviting over 500 agencies to visit the site so that we can get these designs into the market, adopted by agencies and attached to some brands. We already have corporate companies phoning us asking when the designs will be released as they are so tired of the CD Jewel Case and the DVD Poly Box."

Prizes also include the possibility of being published in The Event, AdVantage, Brand and Design Times; the opportunity to design the cover page for the Design Times; a DTP bursary worth R8500.00 from Concept Interactive; and the two-day "A-Z of Stategic Brand Management" workshop worth R4000.00 from Vega (Cape Town).

Anyone from freelance designers to machine minders can enter, and entrants are encouraged to think out of the box on this one. "There are no limitations. As long as the packaging can hold a CD or DVD, it will be entered. Bear in mind that if an agency chooses your design for a project, the design has to be manufactured in bulk, so the designer should keep cost and manufacturability in mind when designing their concept. If designers need assistance with plugs etc to hold their disks onto the packaging they can contact us for assistance," adds Campbell.
