SAWA is the worldwide trade body of screen advertising companies and aims to develop international standards and practices for screen advertising and to improve communication between screen advertising companies around the world to facilitate the easier buying of the cinema medium for advertisers.
Said Carl Martin Klingberg, president of SAWA, “With the resignation of Trevor Ormerod, the president of SAWA 2003 – 2007, the executive council seat for Africa became vacant. As a result of the election held at the Biennial SAWA Convention in Cannes, in June 2007, SAWA are delighted to announce the appointment of Elmarie Pretorius, MD of CineMARK to the Executive Council for a four year term. The Executive Council looks forward to the benefits of Elmarie's many years of experience in our Industry and welcomes her to the steering committee.”
A longstanding SAWA member, CineMARK, a division of the CineMARK Group, is responsible for the cinema advertising sales of a reported 66.1% of South African cinema complexes and 61.7% of South African cinema screens – including Ster-Kinekor and numerous independent cinemas.
According to Pretorius, “CineMARK is committed to the development of cinema as an advertising medium and as such are very proud of our involvement with SAWA.”
