This year’s Cannes Advertiser of the Year award will be awarded to Honda in recognition of its creative and innovative advertising, the organisers of the 54th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival announced yesterday, Wednesday, 9 May 2007. This award is presented to advertisers who have distinguished themselves for inspiring innovative marketing of their products and who embrace and encourage the creative work produced by their agencies.

“The essence of Cannes is all about great creative work so we are delighted to honour Honda who continue to make a tremendous effort to market their brand with imaginative, original and cutting-edge advertising,” said Phil Thomas, Festival CEO.

During the last few years, Honda ads have consistently been awarded Lions across different media. Some of the outstanding and brilliant wins include Cog (Gold Lion in 2003), Grrr (Film Grand Prix and a Titanium Lion in 2005), and Choir and Impossible Dream (Gold Lions in 2006).

Commenting on Honda winning the award, Ken Keir, senior VP of Honda Motor Europe, said, “Through our agencies and a great marketing team we changed our advertising direction five years ago. From that point our success has been the result of a consistent, honest approach projecting the company’s philosophy and values in an entertaining and unique style which has changed Honda awareness out of all recognition.”

Keir, who has been with Honda for 16 years and is responsible for the development of the European sales networks, will be presented with the trophy in Cannes during the Film, Titanium and Integrated Lions Awards Ceremony on Saturday 23 June.

The 54th International Advertising Festival will be held 17 - 23 June in Cannes, France.
