2006 Cannes screenings in SA next week

Independent Newspaper Company (The Inc) and Popcorn Cinema Advertising Sales are partnering to screen the 2006 Cannes International Advertising Festival in South Africa next week as part of an ongoing strategy to promote Cannes Lions locally. According to The Inc, the Cannes Lions representative for SA, the awards and screenings will be in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.

"We plan to add glitz and glamour to the awards locally and our strategic partnership with Popcorn, which represents six of the top 10 cinema complexes in South Africa, will ensure that we continue to work closely with the advertising industry and promote South Africa's creativity," says Andrew Cuthbertson, The Inc GM.

Comments Marisa Torrani, director of Cinevation, Popcorn's sales and marketing partner: "We are honoured to be partners in hosting this prestigious event. Few people in our local ad industry get the opportunity to attend the festival, and it is important that our talent view the ads that top international players rate as world class. Exposure to the best in the world will have a positive impact on the standard of our local advertising."

The VIP screenings will take place at Montecasino in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 23 January 2006, Pavillion in Durban on Wednesday, 24 January, and Canal Walk in Cape Town on Thursday, 25 January.
