Big news for Spar and marking its second investment in Europe, is its venture into Switzerland where it will be rolling out a "relatively large international expansion". The local food retailer concluded an agreement to acquire 60% of the ordinary shares of Spar Holding, also known as Spar Switzerland, for Sf44.5m on 1 April. The agreement also gives Spar the right to buy the remaining 40% of the company after five years for Sf6.3m, as reported by Business Day. Danette Breitenbach explains why "retail in Africa is still a good bet" according to Eben Gerryts, who recently released the latest PwC report, So Much in Store.
