Indaba time again - Tourism Indaba In case you haven't noticed, the annual Tourism Indaba has been happening down in Durbs "by die see" and Issa Sikiti da Silva has been Bizcommunity's man on the ground. Considering it's just a few days before local elections, why shouldn't politics be dragged into the discourse as well? The DA mayoral candidate for Cape Town Patricia de Lille released a statement on Friday, 6 May 2011, entitled "Tourism Indaba: DA to bid to move Indaba to Cape Town". In response, Durban mayor (and ANC member) Obed Mlaba has responded with a hands-off warning, according to The Mercury. It's almost entry deadline time for Loeries (Friday, 13 May 2011), so along with ad agencies scrambling to get their entries in on time, it's also the turn of PR agencies and consultants to get theirs in for the brand new PR category - except some members of the PR industry believe that "winning the Loerie for PR may be losing the PR for PR", if you look at the PR entry requirements. Bizcommunity.com is currently awaiting the responses of The Loerie Awards and PRISA. Today marks the 35th day that South African photographer Anton Hammerl has been missing (presumably detained) in Libya. World Press Photo winner and fellow South African photographer, Jodi Bieber, highlighted his plight and appealed internationally for his release while accepting her World Press Photo of the Year title in Amsterdam this past weekend. #FreeAntonHammerl Simone Puterman (@SimoneBiz) Managing editor PS The latest Ornico Ad Showcase features TV ads for Peugot 5008, Kurt Geiger, Mugg & Bean, Axe Xcite and Department of Health, and radio ads for Maverick, Remy Martin, Morula Casino, Netflorist and Ocean Basket. The Peninsula - as good as ever [Brian Berkman: contributing editor, travel] I remember the Peninsula All-Suite Hotel in Sea Point opening 21 years ago.
