Port Elizabeth firm sponsors local football club
Port Elizabeth-based General Petroleum Installations (GPI) announced, earlier this week, that it has entered into a sponsorship agreement with the Swartkops Football Club, one of the oldest in the Eastern Cape. The company will sponsor the playing kit and equipment needed by the club and will assist in the refurbishment and maintenance of the club's grounds. GPI's GM, Ed Holloway, pointed out that as the company's workshop facility is based in Swartkops, the decision to sponsor the club was a logical extension of the firm's social responsibility program. “This is our way of putting something back into the local community which supplies the majority of our workforce. With so much emphasis on sponsorship for professional clubs in the run up to 2010 it is important not to forget our community-based amateur clubs”. The sponsorship, which extends to July 2010, will see the club's senior side competing as the GPI Giants.
