The SABC will support eblockwatch, a project that has been instrumental in bringing down some of South Africa's most notorious criminals and finding missing children.
The SABC Community Alert Service will operate as a network, utilising eblockwatch's networks consisting of Neighborhood Watch, the police, task teams, specialised industrial support teams, security companies, police reservists, Netcare, the South African Agricultural Union, township patrols and, most importantly, over 60,000 ordinary South Africans to fight the scourge of crime.
eblockwatch will also provide the back-end technical facility for the SABC Community Alert Service.
“The organisation is excited about this initiative as it encourages South Africans, to have ubuntu and look after each other in the fight against crime. It also speaks to our values as a company to create conversations and partnerships with organisations that share the same vision of creating a common future for all and restoring human dignity by caring for one another,” said the SABC's Kaizer Kganyago.
A TV and radio campaign will be launched to create awareness amongst the public of the service.
