The CSIR's Meraka Institute has collaborated with various government departments in a pilot project that trains Eastern Cape teachers in how to use multimedia tablets for educational purposes. The project rollout has begun with tablets provided to around 160 teachers at 11 schools. Once this type of model for mobile technology deployment has been developed, it will be applied on a broader scale throughout South Africa.
