In 2004, I set up the Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development, working alongside the Ackerman Family Foundation. That school puts more than 100 successful entrepreneurs into South Africa's economy every year.
I set up a Supplier Development incubator in South Africa for the world's largest premium alcohol drinks company, Diageo. Businesses grew. Some suppliers doubled turnover; others were able to increase capacity to take on other, bigger clients.
I have mentored and nurtured several young business owners and professionals individually and am often a point of reference for marketing agencies.
I led Marketing Procurement at Diageo South Africa (including Brandhouse Beverages), owners of brands like Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, Bell's and Smirnoff. I have a deep-seated understanding of the demands of corporate marketing teams, as well as the return on investment demanded by corporate Procurement.
I am a proponent for change in the way businesses of all descriptions position the value they offer to clients and customers. Although focusing on product and service intrinsics is the natural point of pride for all businesses, understanding how that translates to value for customers is what translates into sustained revenue.
