Safe house sends cry for help

Supporters of Mirriam House of Safety in Mbekweni township in Paarl, a safe house for abandoned babies, which burnt down yesterday, claiming the life of a toddler, is sending out a cry for help as the house was demolished and everything was destroyed in the fire leaving the 21 children with nothing. The children are being temporarily housed at the community centre but urgent funds are needed to build a new house.

Mirriam Toni is a 40 year old Xhosa lady who has been taking care of orphaned and vulnerable children for the last 15 years with the help and support of her sister Gina. The children are housed and cared for on an emotional and physical level. She also assists them with school, skills development and sport to become self sufficient.

We are calling for support from Capetonians and anyone who would like to support the cause as every donation can make a difference.
