Writing Studio offers playwriting course
Daniel Dercksen of the Writing Studio in Cape Town will present the ABC of Writing a Screenplay workshop for budding screenwriters on Tuesday evenings from 6pm until 9pm at the Waterfront Theatre School on 19 and 26 January and 2 and 9 February 2016.
The workshop follows in the tradition of The Write Journey and is a practical and interactive exploration of what it takes to be a screenwriter in South Africa and how to write a screenplay that will eventually find its way to the big screen.
During the workshop, writers will look at how to define and conceptualise their ideas, focus their thematic purpose, develop and explore their characters, and master the art of plotting the dramatic action. Writers will also attend previews of upcoming films to sharpen their visual sensibility.
At the end of the 4-evening workshop, writers will have all the tools needed to write a winning screenplay and submit the first 10 pages of their new project for revision. Following the workshop, they will submit their first pages for revision and then receive guidance to complete a screenplay that will be ready for the marketplace.
