3D launch for Disney teen franchise
“3D is especially appropriate for concert films, because it allows the audience to feel as if they are in an actual concert arena,” says Michelle Roodt, marketing executive Ster-Kinekor Theatres. “Watching it on a big screen in 3D is an experience unlike anything you'd get from watching a concert DVD at home, no matter how big your television screen.”
The Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert digital 3D movie was shot during Cyrus's 54-city American tour late last year and will be screened in state-of-the-art Disney Digital 3D.
The Disney-produced film is directed by Bruce Hendricks (Ultimate X: The Movie) and was shot using 3D digital cameras rather than with regular digital cameras and rendered in the format later (as has been the case with most digital 3D movies so far). The cinematographer is Mitchell Amundsen (Transformers).
Actress Miley Cyrus – the 14-year old singing sensation and star of Disney Channel's hit series Hannah Montana – performs as both a solo artist and as her hugely popular television character, Hannah Montana. In the hit TV show on the Disney Channel, Cyrus (daughter of Billy Ray) leads a double-life, playing a mild-mannered eighth grader by day and famous pop sensation Hannah Montana by night.
Hannah Montana is allegedly the most successful Disney Channel series franchise ever. It has yielded two No 1 albums that are among the most-requested on Radio Disney, a bestselling book series, a sold-out national concert tour and a winning consumer products line. Hannah is the most popular character on Disney.com's homepage and among the top sellers are video games for Nintendo Wii, electric guitars, DVDs, fashion dolls, apparel and accessories, and ringtones.
