Awethu! is a broad, non-partisan initiative, bringing together civil society structures collectively working for social justice in South Africa and beyond.
Its National Coordinator, Maurice Smithers, said, "Civil society organisations will be able to share news, events, start and hold free discussions on the platform virtually. They will also be able to publicise their latest campaigns for everyone to know about.
"Civil society needed to strengthen its capacity to hold government and big business accountable for their actions (or non-actions) and the organisation is seen as a vehicle for ensuring that this happened.
"We hope to use the mobi site to mobilise as many people around the country as possible to work together on common issues and to support each other across sectors. Our aim is to give all organisations, no matter how small, a loud voice."
