Bakwena rolls out cancer awareness campaign
The campaign, in partnership with the Pink Drive, will offer its services to community members along the Bapong (N4) and Hammanskraal (N1) routes.
In addition, Bakwena is running an educational programme with six high schools from these areas to raise awareness of the importance of early detection of breast and testicular cancer. Early detection is key to surviving these diseases in the majority of cases and offering this option to the community is important to their health and well-being.
Below is a schedule of dates and venues where this initiative will be rolled out. All members of the community are invited to come along and take part from 10am - 5pm:
- 18 and 19 August - Bapong Community Centre;
- 20 August - Suurman Clinic; and
- 21 August - Temba Clinic.
Bakwena understands the importance of strengthening systems such as health and education, and feels very strongly about investing in the futures of people in these communities.
Wellness of communities
"Knowledge empowers people to take hold of their futures and make better choices for the long term. Initiatives such as these are essential to ensuring sustainable improvements are made to the wellness of communities and it is important to us to work with our communities on issues that are important to them," says Bakwena spokesperson, Charmaine van Wyk.
"With the professional support of the North West departments of health and education, local hospitals, health centres and clinics, we believe that this initiative will effect much needed change in our local communities. This ensures that the women and children involved receive the proper preventative information and treatment," Van Wyk says.
