The money will be awarded to ten selected learning institutions that form part of the Community Chest's School Turn-Around Project. The ten selected schools are Walmer Estate Primary, Zonnebloem Girls Primary, Zonnebloem Boys Primary, Zonnebloem High, Cape Town High School, Lotus River High, Rahmaniyeh Primary, Joostenberg Primary, Kasselsvlei Primary and Leonsdale Primary.

These ten schools will each receive R5,000 that will be used to purchase essential educational equipment. In addition, ten learners from each of the ten institutions will each receive R5,000 to help lift them out of poverty and provide them with better chance for the future.

Long term assistance

Joostenberg Primary, Kasselsvlei Primary and Leonsdale Primary are schools that Community Chest will work with over the long term in conjunction with ABSA Bank to invest in the schools' development.

Community Chest CEO, Lorenzo Davids, said this was yet another example of the Cape Town community working together for the greater good of its people. "We have said that the education of every child is the Community Chest's funding priority. The success of this golf day contributes enormously to our fulfilment of that vision and we are grateful to all of those who helped make it happen."

A total of 19 corporations and businesses participated in the golf day to give back to education in celebrating 20 years of democracy.
